THOMAS RIB SHACK

In 1971, Betty and Charles Thomas established Thomas Grocery in Tuscaloosa, AL. Thomas Grocery soon became Thomas Rib Shack, where they sold soul food and barbeque to their customers. A large part of the sustained success of Thomas Rib Shack is due to its signature barbeque sauce. Betty Thomas was the sauce's creator, and she passed her recipe down to her daughter Sharon Thomas and granddaughter Sha'Rhena Cooper. Betty passed away in 2018, but the sauce did not. The barbeque sauce lives on through Sharon and Sha'Rhena, and is sold at Thomas Rib Shack and local grocery stores in Tuscaloosa County.
